Phobia Project

The phobia project was designed as a free-form typographic exercise with the intention of producing a strong emotional reaction from the viewer. The project unfolds from a 6x9 booklet into a large 24x36 poster. This makes the phobia more prominent on each page.
I decided to explore the phobia of outer space. During my research I found that people were afraid of space for a multitude of reasons including, unknown creatures, the unexplored vastness, and suffocation. I chose to display suffocation by making the typography degrade as you opened the booklet. Each image of space also gets slightly darker as you move through the piece to simulate your vison going due to the lack of oxygen.
